Thank you for being willing to help me launch A Seat at the Table: Finding Home Through the Fathers Who Chose Me.

I began writing A Seat at the Table in 2021. After writing The Man in the Window, which focused largely on my relationship with my birth father, I wanted to tell the story of another father—the man who chose me, loved me, and taught me what it meant to belong.

Then, in 2021, my dad was diagnosed with a brain tumor. For months, I poured myself into this manuscript. More than anything, I wanted to finish it while he was still here. I wanted him to hold the finished book in his hands. I wanted him to know what his life had meant to me. We spent many hours chatting, laughing, and processing together most of these stories.

But somewhere during that season, I sensed the Lord speaking to my heart. "You can't finish the book yet... because you don't have the last chapter." I didn't want that to be true. Emotionally, it was one of the hardest things I had ever accepted. I wanted my dad to read the ending. Instead, I would have to live it. We would have that conversation in the weeks before his passing.

After he passed away, I tried several times to come back to the manuscript. In 2023 and again in 2024, I would open the file, read a few pages, and then close it. The words were there, but my heart wasn't ready.

Then, last summer, I found myself alone at our family cabin on the river for several days. It was the same place where so many of the memories in this book had been made. Away from the noise and distractions of everyday life, I began reflecting on Steve's life, our family's story, and the goodness of God. Somewhere during those quiet days, the desire to finish this book returned. For the first time since his passing, I wasn't trying to write through my grief—I was writing from the gratitude that had begun to grow because of it.

Looking back, I realize the Lord was right. The book wasn't missing another chapter. It was missing the ending.

And now I understand that the final chapter was never really about my dad's death. It was about the legacy he left behind, the seat he always kept at the table, and the faithfulness of a Heavenly Father who had been establishing my steps all along.

This book has been five years in the making, and before it's released, I want to put it in the hands of a small group of trusted readers.

As a Launch Team member, you'll receive:

  • 📖 An advance digital PDF copy of the book

  • 💬 The opportunity to provide honest feedback before publication

  • ⭐ The chance to leave an honest review when the book launches

  • ❤️ A behind-the-scenes look at the publishing process

My only request is that you read the book and tell me the truth. I'm not looking for compliments—I want to make this book the best it can be.
